Real Exchanges #3: K-POP

So, by now it’s pretty obvious that I love music, right? But you know what, I have to admit, there are genres of music that I’m sadly ignorant towards. One of those genres is K-Pop, which is swiftly becoming one of the most dominant genres of music worldwide. Ignorance tends to be an ugly word, but funnily enough, it was my ignorance that spawned the idea for today’s podcast.

My good friend, Wei Shi, is a fellow photographer, music lover, and ridiculously efficient plant parent who also happens to be a massive lover of K-Pop. So it’s simple, really, basically this episode is me (the ignorant novice) getting schooled by Wei about what makes K-Pop special, what makes it stand out among all other forms of music, and what people of various cultures are getting from this specific corner of the music world.

And yes, we do talk about more than BTS (though also yes, we do talk A LOT about BTS). Getting to do these offshoot episodes has been so much fun and this episode, in particular, serves as a great reminder as to what you can capture when you share your passions with your friends. Wei is the kind of friend who’s always down to make you laugh, isn’t afraid to inject realness into a conversation, and most importantly; she isn’t shy about conveying WHY she loves something.

After our chat, be sure to check out a selection of Wei’s favourite K-Pop songs over at Spotify, and also check out her photography at weineversleeps.com.
