Bonus Episode: MILCK

There’ve been a few chats this season that has almost felt like therapy sessions, but this one is easily the most overt example of that. Connie Lim (aka MILCK) is a singer-songwriter, producer, and esteemed advocate for human rights. The most striking thing about her artistry is how authentic it has become for her to embed her principles into her songwriting; reminding us that what we believe intends to go hand-in-hand with our lived experience. This came to a head back in 2017, when she went viral for her performance of her song Quiet during the Women’s March, a moment that became a lightning rod for both the movement and her career.

But what happens after that? Definitely incredible moments like performing for Time Magazines Voices of the Future summit, becoming a recipient of the Planned Parenthood Champion of Choice Award, and having a song that launched OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network. BUT, even with all that…how do you figure out where to expand your art and stay true to yourself? These are just some of the areas we explore on today’s bonus podcast. Especially the element of the why; why do we even have principles and why do we feel compelled to share them with others? This is one of those episodes where I was reminded of how lucky I am that I get to talk to people who’re not only talented but also generous, candid, and introspective about the world around us; big ups to MILCK for being part of this season.

After you hear the episode, be sure to check out MILCK’s track Power on the official New Exchange Playlist. Also, follow MILCK on Spotify, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
