Tiger Darrow

I gotta say, it’s kind of crazy how much this episode embodies what this entire series is all about. I say the tagline in every intro (that “everyone has a story to tell”) and it’s honestly something that’s so crucial towards how I see the world; that remembering that everyone has their own individual stories can help me better understand my own. Today’s guest is someone who also believes this, both in the context of her professional and personal life. Say hello to Tiger Darrow, an award-winning singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer from Texas that’s based here in New York City.

Tiger is a creative that’s not bound to any conventions of what an artist should be. A few years back I caught her on stage performing with cellists on stage as she belted her heart out into a microphone while dancing without a care in the world. That’s a memory I’ve returned to throughout the pandemic, specifically because I had never seen that before; that meld of classical music textures and modern pop sounds. Tiger’s also built a reputation as a unique producer, allowing her to collaborate with dozens of artists including L’Rain, Durand Jones and the Indications, Alex Warren, and more. I usually don’t like bringing up numbers, but it is worth noting that Tiger also did production on Rachel Bochner’s Ghosted My Therapist and Chaos Mode by Dezi, two tracks you’ve definitely heard on Tik Tok and have gone on to amass over 4 million streams on Spotify (yes, that’s indeed million with a capital fucking M).

On today’s episode, I chat with Tiger about how she got started in music, what drives her creative spirit, how working with others has helped her grasp a better understanding of the world, and the magic that can be found when we put others before ourselves.

After you hear the episode, be sure to check out Tiger Darrow’s new track Fugly on the official New Exchange Playlist. You can also find the playlist of Tiger’s production credits here (as mentioned within the episode). Be sure to follow Tiger Darrow on Spotify, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
