Editors (Season 5 Premiere)

Five fucking seasons, man? Holy shit, eh? If this is your first time checking out the podcast, my name is Ken Grand-Pierre and I’m a photographer based in New York that’s worked with some of your favourite musicians (like Christine and the Queens, The 1975, Two Door Cinema Club, and many more). The guests on today’s podcast are such a group, say hello to Editors. Sonically, Editors have become mavericks in the music world with their approach to music; combining danceable synths with brooding guitar chords that also soar. They’ve released 6 magnificent albums throughout their 17-year history as a band, causing them to not only play arenas all over the world but also headlining various music festivals in the process (like Best Kept Secret, Down The Rabbit Hole, etc.).

Back in 2015, I traveled with the band throughout the UK to photograph their shows (you can see those photos here), and honestly, to this day that still remains the most creatively inspiring experience of my life. When it comes to determining guests for this podcast, I’m always drawn to people who’ve carved out their own path and in the process found that to be the most rewarding approach toward life. Editors are such a band, and their latest offering, EBM, is a stellar continuation of that. The album drops this Friday and in many ways, this episode is the definitive exploration of how the album was designed. Joining me are frontman Tom Smith, drummer Ed Lay and the latest addition to the band; Benjamin John Power (aka Blanck Mass).

The band has a European tour kicking off on October 1st in Spain and a UK and Irish tour kicking off next January at Nottingham on January 25th. If you’re a North American, don’t fret, I suspect the band will be around sometime next year. For more info on their tour dates be sure to visit their website.

After you hear the episode, be sure to check out Editors track Karma Climb on the official New Exchange Playlist. Also, be sure to follow Editors on Spotify, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
