Elsa y Elmar

What does it mean to be a trailblazer? I think many of us wish people would describe us in that manner, but maybe a title like that can be burdensome? This is what I tackle with today’s guest, Colombian-born/Mexican-based artist Elsa y Elmar. Elsa’s music is another example of the erosion of genres we’ve been seeing within the world of music. Simply describing her music as “pop” doesn’t convey just how personal her songwriting is and you can hear that in spades within our chat.

This was my first time chatting with Elsa and it was one of those experiences that reminded me of why I love people so much. Elsa wears her heart on her sleeve in a way that I never could, she’s brave in how she stands up for her ambitions but she’s also emotionally mature enough to admit that it’s not an easy road. Together we chat about how music became her life, the importance of music production, collaborating with Raleigh Ritchie (aka Greyworm of Game of Thrones), and the ways her music is challenging the Latin American music industry.

After you hear the episode, be sure to check out Elsa’s track Hasta dónde se enamora on the official New Exchange Playlist. Also, follow Elsa y Elmar on Spotify, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
