It truly is a massive privilege getting to share this episode with you. Ezra Furman is a singer/songwriter from Chicago that has spent the last 15 years releasing some of the most daring music in the indie rock world. Along with putting out critically acclaimed albums, she’s also toured the world with an unbelievable live band, has DJed for the BBC and she also created the soundtrack for Netflix’s hit show, Sex Education.

On today’s episode, we delve into a little bit of all of that, along with how Ezra's experience of being a trans woman has become more prominent within her art. Throughout her career, she’s never been shy about shedding light on the realities of being trans in a world that doesn’t understand the complexities of being trans. I can admit that even I, as an ally, will hear a lyric from Ezra and feel ashamed of my own ignorance. The music she’s released recently is more unreserved and poignant than her back catalogue, and that aspect of her art is a major focus of our chat; specifically ‘why now?’ What has changed in Ezra’s life that’s allowed her to be more open, which has made her feel it’s more crucial than ever to be open about her life? You’ll have to hear today’s episode to find out.

I’m happy to share that Ezra Furman will be dropping a new album called All Of Us Flames on August 26th.

She’ll also be touring the states with her band starting on May 19th in Los Angeles. The first leg of the tour ends in June and the second leg kicks off in August, with a European tour also starting in October. I’ll absolutely be at the Webster Hall show on September 21st, see you there! Be sure to visit Ezra’s website for more tour dates and info.

Also, after you hear the episode, be sure to check out Ezra Furman’s track Point Me Toward The Real on the official New Exchange Playlist. Also, follow Ezra Furman on Spotify, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
