Bonus Episode: Jealous of the Birds

You know, it’s been a while since we’ve had an Irish act on the pod. Let’s change that, yeah? Say hello to Naomi Hamilton aka Jealous of the Birds. It’s pretty wild, her most recent album, Peninsula, came into my life at the perfect time. It was after almost a year of barely listening to music and getting to hear Naomi’s lyrics were exactly what I needed. Throughout Peninsula, she expresses herself with flecks of indie rock, folk, and even soul; exquisitely projecting herself like her music heroes (Elliot Smith, Nirvana, etc.). All while still staying true to herself and her own sound.

It’s no wonder why NPR hailed her music as a remarkable gift and it’s such a damn joy getting to welcome her on the podcast. It’s mentioned within the episode, but it’s worth noting again that Naomi’s album was crafted almost entirely by a team of women, led by producer Marta Salogni at Strongroom Studios in London. In an industry dominated by men, it’s an incredible thing to take stock of, and big ups to what Naomi, Marta, and the team were able to accomplish with this brilliant album.

After you hear the episode, be sure to check out Jealous of the Bird’s track Young Neanderthal on the official New Exchange Playlist. Also, follow Jealous of the Birds on Spotify, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
