ISLAND

It’s no secret that the pandemic has been hard on creatives all over the world; especially for bands that rely on touring to get by. Luckily, my old friends of British indie band ISLAND, were able to take this contemplative time and harness it within their sophomore album, Yesterday Park (which is out now). Man, how do I describe this album? You know those songs that make you feel as though you’re floating in the air yet still have some teeth to them? Where the drums sound loud and the guitars just sound so fucking cool? That’s the vibe throughout Yesterday Park, a lush album that also features lyrics which allow you to reflect on the different shades of life.

But putting out a great sophomore album is far from easy, which is a major thing we get into on today’s episode. I catch up with my pals Rollo Doherty (vocals/guitar) and Toby Richards (drums) about evolving a vision during a time where each day was uncertain, life in London during that time, and how friendship is crucial to keeping a band together through dark times.
