Summer Bonus: Metric
Welcome to the first summer bonus episode! For the uninitiated, something that I love to do between seasons is to release a handful of bonus episodes that tend to be laxer than our usual talks. And man am I so excited for you to hear this chat that I had with Emily and Jimmy of Metric. There’s no other way to say this, but I’m a massive fan of Metric. I’ve also been fortunate to have worked with them many times over the years, which is something that still shatters my mind.
Metric are back with a new and 8th album, Formentera (out now), a mesmerizing array of sounds, textures and tones that challenge everything we’ve come to expect from the band. Thematically, the album explores that universal inner desire to escape from the madness but the reality that ultimately; we’ll always need to face ourselves.
So yes, we do talk a lot about the album, but something I very much enjoyed about this talk is how we utilized the album as a way to talk about life overall. As the podcast continues to evolve, our talks have gotten more personal, and this episode is a glorious example of just that.
Metric will be embarking on a 39-date North American tour, starting on August 11th in Victoria, British Columbia. On August 26th they’ll also be playing an iconic show at Toronto’s Budweiser Stage with support coming from Interpol, Spoon, and the unbelievable Bartees Strange. Visit ilovemetric.com for all tour dates.
After you hear the episode, be sure to check out Metric’s track All Comes Crashing on the official New Exchange Playlist. Also, be sure to follow Metric on Spotify, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
