Creativity can sometimes come from unexpected places during unexpected times. For example, how do you create when you’re not only raising a newborn child but also doing so while the entire world is dealing with a global pandemic? This is what we explore on today’s podcast with my friend Victor Solf. A musician from France, Victor made a name for himself with the pop duo Her, which saw him touring the world non-stop, gaining respect from critics and living in a momentum that felt boundless. That all came to a halt when his music partner and best friend Simon Carpentier passed away in 2017. Following Simon’s passing, Victor completed their debut album, toured for it and brought Her to a close with a triumphant show at the Zenith arena in Paris.

Fast-forward to 2020 and Victor has begun releasing music under his own name with two EP’s titled Aftermath and 12 Monkeys Mixtape. Both are wildly different from one another, yet equally excel at subverting any expectations people would have for Victor. On this episode of the podcast, we chat about how he found inspiration within the pandemic, fatherhood and the everyday growth that comes from grieving a friend.
