What does it take to create art that has nothing to prove? This is a thought I’ve had when listening to Irish alt-pop band, Soda Blonde. They’re a band that’s literally born from the ashes (the members were part of Little Green Cars) and if Soda Blonde has an agenda it’s to never compromise their creative spirit. A prime example being their debut single, Swimming Through The Night, a perfect song that doesn’t adhere to the conventional rules of pop music.

What’s marvelous about Soda Blonde is how in a short time they’ve cemented themselves as an entirely different kind of band, releasing songs that do a beautiful job of being lovingly infectious and playfully abstract. On today’s episode, I chat with frontwoman Faye O’Rourke about how crucial it’s been to keep the bands creative spirit alive and how the pandemic lockdown has played a role in showing them what the band can be. Their debut album, Small Talk, will be out on July 9th.

Follow Soda Blonde on Bandcamp, Spotify, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
